CAFFEINE AS A CELLULITE REDUCER

Caffeine's use as a cellulite reducer is wide spread.  Cellulite is a result of fat deposits below the surface of the skin and it is common among women and occurs in some men.  The appearance of cellulite can vary widely, and it is believed to be caused by a number of factors: genetics, hormones, diet, and lifestyle being the most often recognized.

Reducing cellulite is best accomplished the hard way through exercise and diet to decrease the amount of excess body fat that increases cellulite.  However, a 1999 study published in the American Society of Dermatologic Surgery found that the reduction in the thickness of fat can be accomplished by caffeine based creams and lotions. 

As an active ingredient, caffeine works by penetrating the skin into the fat cells where the diuretic property of the caffeine dehydrates the cell causing it to shrink.  Caffeine also tightens blood vessels which in turn tightens the skin and reduces the appearance of cellulite.  The result is a firmer, toner appearance to the skin.
